Project Goal
Over the course of five months, worked together in a team of ten members as Design Lead and primary Level Designer. Project came together as an exploration based horror piece that tasks the player with finding key items while warding off the dangerous “Hide-Behind” with their flashlight.
Greyboxed and built up both exterior environment and various buildings present in the campground. Worked with other designers to place props and create detailed set pieces within game. Directed Design Team in terms of creative direction, narrative choices, and overall game feel.
Develop a horror game where the threat is always just out of sight. Create an environment that complements this idea through use of complex sight-lines and interesting prop placement in order to create unease and distress within the player.
Concepting
Starting design focused mainly on drafting concepts for the eventual playspace the player would get to explore. A big focus was on trying to include as many places as we could to help get across the feel of a summer camp while balancing that with our limited team size. As such some cuts had to be made early on, with certain buildings like Arts and Crafts getting cut while others, like the Nurse’s Station got condensed into the Dining Hall. However, despite these cut backs we were still able to end up with a decently full sized camp that we were then able to focus on building up and filling out.
